You might try looking at private investigators in Louisville or Lexington - some of whom would know how to process the safe, and (maybe) recover useable latents, depending on his skillset. But, it doesn't do any good to develop latents unless: a) you've got inked prints to compare them against, and b) you've got an examiner trained to competency to do the comparison, and another examiner, also trained to competency, to perform a verification and/or peer review of the work. So, assuming your PI is able to recover any latent prints, not only will you want to get inked fingerprint and palmprint cards from your other family you'll want to check resumes on whomever you speak with...

[At a tangent... You don't have to answer this one, of course, but I'm a little surprised that you seem to want to leave the police or sheriff out of it. Did you not want to make a police report, or did the officer or deputy not want to process the safe? ]

Does anyone know where in Kentucky I can get a safe dusted for fingerprints without reporting a crime? Are there any private labs that don't involve the police. I suspect someone in my family.
Thanks
