Michael, It is possible that your instructor meant "Nutant loop". This is a type of loop pattern that curves over a delta. If it was a concentric whorl pattern, that can also be rare... where there is a lack of bifurcations or ridge endings on the ridges surrounding the core, setting up sort of a bulls-eye pattern. The easiest way to find out is to fingerprint yourself and see if that pattern has one delta or two. when i attended a sheriff's academy 20+ yrs ago, i was told by our fingerprinting instructor that i had a very unusual fingerprint known as a "newton's whorl". it is a number of concentric circles...how can i find out more about it (is that the name for it?) and just how unusual a print it is?...mike |
