Paul Maliska was killed October 16, 1997 by a drunk driver in Macon county, Franklin, NC. He was driving a school bus returning home from a volleyball game. Carla Rachelle Edwards, My 16 year old daughter, was also killed. | ||

My name is Gary Radavice. I was a very close personal friend of Paul's. Infact I was the one responsible along with another friend who re-united Paul with his superbowl ring. It's a true Cinderella story. When I and our friend Monte Ross came to Hayesville, NC for Paul's funeral, I had heard that the ring had possibly re-dissapeared. Unfortunately I have not kept in touch with Paul's surviving family and only his wife and eldest daughter Sara remembered me from Florida. They were obviously grief stricken at the time so little Paul or "Bru" did not rememeber me. Paul lives on in the hearts of those who he touched. He is a true man of God. | ||

Paul Maliska, President of Laser search was killed in a traffic accident around 1999. The ring your were speaking of Ed was a Super Bowl ring with the Baltimore Colts from Super Bowl V. Now there is a name we have not heard for eons. In the mid-1980s, Paul W. Maliska was a salesman for frequency-doubled Nd:YAG lasers with Laser Photonics, phone (407) 829-2613. They may know where he is now. If not, you should be able to track him down pretty easily. Paul W. Maliska often mentioned some sort of "Bowl" ring he always wore and there was a Paul Maliska who played in the 25th Gator Bowl. If he went back to his sports background, it could be that he is the same Paul Maliska now coaching sports at the Norwood Colorado High School, phone (970) 327-4273. WWW.WHITEPAGES.COM gives the address and phone numbers for two more Paul Maliskas (one in Massachusetts and one in Texas). In the 1980s (until they installed their own high-power laser), the GBI Laboratory usually drove their evidence to the Army Crime Laboratory's high-power laser (only about a ten minute drive). Laser-Photonics (Paul Maliska) was one of only three companies (the others were Omnichrome and Cooper LaserSonics) offering portable lasers for crime scene exams at that time. Maliska was not a Latent Print Examiner and someone at a crime lab like GBI would have been deciding whether latent prints in a case were suitable for identification and whether they were made by specific suspects. The GBI installed their AFIS in 1988 and unidentified latent prints from your case may have been already searched against the Georgia database. However, such latent prints have probably not been searched against the FBI's criminal database of about 44 million persons. --Ed German | ||

I’m trying to find a fingerprint expert (who I believe was from NC) named Paul Malaski (sp?). He processed a Georgia murder scene with a laser in 1986 because the GBI didn’t have a laser. The GBI cannot find the print cards or other evidence of the prints from the scene, and I would like to contact Mr. Malaski to see what (if anything ) he remembers about the case and whether he maintained any record of his work on the case. I’m looking for the print cards because the latents from the scene exculpated my client (who was convicted based upon the testimony of a jailhouse snitch and a co-defendant who received immunity in exchange for her testimony), and they have never been run through AFIS or compared with the prints of the guys that I think did the crime.
