Thumb has three phalanges. But thumb impression relates to only one phalanx, why? Secondly, are the prints / impression loaded with any other information such as disease etc? Please respond.

My mind has this peculiar fate that it is burdened by questions which it cannot ignore but in the face of limited knowledge it cannot answer either. My quest for learning is focused to well defined areas of finger prints and thumb impression and if my answers come from experts the results are going to be mutually benificial. Your answers are time saving and reliable.

Depending on the pattern type there are clues which may indicate a print being consistent with having come from the right or left hand but unless the impression contains enough of the rest of the hand to tell, or unless you have an exemplar for comparison I know of no definitive way to tell which hand a thumb print came from.
