Having just viewed the BBC Panorama program on the McKie case where a print appears to have been wrongly identified by 4 Scottish criminal records office experts, my mind is full of questions.
One usually hears about the number of points of similarity identified but surely examiners should always look first, and very carefuly, for points of difference and their reports should, at the outset, always state the number of specific points of difference identified. That way they can never lean on the defence of "in my opinion" when they are challenged. They would be forced to admit "I got it wrong". The Scottish exminers are still clinging to their story despite international agreement of their error. |
