Tips are not captured on ten-print enrollment cards because those cards are primarily for criminal arrest record purposes, not for purposes of providing forensic comparison exemplars. Major case prints including ten-print records, palmprints, and supplemental friction ridge impressions (complete fingertip, lower joints, etc.) are recorded for forensic exemplar purposes. Some AFIS manufacturers are already capable of working with all such impressions in their databases. |

Why is the information contained in the very tips of the fingers not captured upon a criminal 10-print enrollment? Is sufficient information from that region captured upon rolling a finger? Are latent fingertip impressions rarely left behind at crime scenes? |
