The NCIC Fingerprint Classification Code consists of 20 characters. Two characters represent each finger as follows:Block | Block | Finger | 1 | 2 | Right thumb | 3 | 4 | Right index | 5 | 6 | Right middle | 7 | 8 | Right ring | 9 | 10 | Right little | 11 | 12 | Left thumb | 13 | 14 | Left index | 15 | 16 | Left middle | 17 | 18 | Left ring | 19 | 20 | Left little | The following codes apply:Pattern Type | Pattern Subgroup | NCIC Fingerprint Code | Arch | Plain | AA | Arch | Tented | TT | Loop | Radial | Two numeric characters representing the ridge count plus 50 (maximum 99) | Loop | Ulnar | Two numeric characters representing the actual ridge count (maximum 49) | Whorl | Plain - Inner Tracing | PI | Whorl | Plain - Meet Tracing | PM | Whorl | Plain Outer Tracing | PO | Whorl | Central Pocket - Inner Tracing | CI | Whorl | Central Pocket - Meet Tracing | CM | Whorl | Central Pocket - Outer Tracing | CO | Whorl | Double Loop - Inner Tracing | DI | Whorl | Double Loop - Meet Tracing | DM | Whorl | Double Loop - Outer Tracing | DO | Whorl | Accidental - Inner Tracing | XI | Whorl | Accidental - Meet Tracing | XM | Whorl | Accidental - Outer Tracing | XO | Missing/Amputated or Bandaged Finger | | XX | Scarred/Mutilated Pattern | | SR | Thus, a fingerprint card with the following Henry Classification:Right Thumb | Right Index | Right Middle | Right Ring | Right Little | Ulnar Loop Ridge Count 12 | Double Loop Whorl Outer Tracing | Ulnar Loop Ridge Count 11 | Radial Loop Ridge Count 16 | Ulnar Loop Ridge Count 14 | | | | | | Left Thumb | Left Index | Left Middle | Left Ring | Left Little | Ulnar Loop Ridge Count 27 | Tented Arch | Amputated Finger | Ulnar Loop Ridge Count 17 | Central Pocket Loop Whorl Inner Tracing | | Would have the following NCIC Fingerprint Code: 12DO11661427TTXX17CI Notes:Code XX is used in instances of missing and totally/partly amputated fingers or where conditions make it impossible (e.g., bandaged) to accurately classify. Do NOT assign the opposite finger classification as is done in the Henry system of classification. Code SR is used in instances in which the fingerprint cannot be accurately classified because of scarring or mutilation. Do NOT assign the opposite finger classification as is done in the Henry system of classification. Years ago, the NCIC Fingerprint Code for all whorls used only the whorl tracing, i.e., II, MM, and OO. Some older NCIC records still reflect those older codes. Years ago, AC was used as the NCIC Fingerprint Code representing "approximate classification" and UC was used to represent "Unclassifiable." Although the AC and UC codes still exist in some legacy files, XX would now be used. Reference FBI EFTS 7.0; www.fbi.gov |
