It's been my experience that magnetic powder yields the best results on styrofoam.

Is it possible to develop fingerprints on a styrofoam bowl? Possible, yes. But it's a difficult surface to work with. It's definitely not just a matter of dusting for prints.

The problem with questions like yours is that people generally ask when it's a case of something they are extremely anxious to deal with. Any answer that says it's possible tends to give them more hope than is justified, and they demand of their local police why they haven't done it.

Only in a very small percentage of crimes are the suspect's prints found. And styrofoam would represent a very small percentage of those. Depending on conditions and the situation, I would try it, but I wouldn't have much expectation of finding anything useful.

My son's 2 dogs were poisoned with strychnine and the bowl was left at the scene. We really need to know if you can get fingerprints off a styrofoam bowl. Please answer this question.
