In Texas the ten print cards of police applicants are usually put on the state AFIS data base system but given a different numbering sequence to differentiate them from arrests. This becomes useful when searching latent prints from crime scenes through AFIS, as officers have a habit of touching or picking up items.

I will have to defer to someone else's knowledge regarding the ten prints of those persons who enter the witness protection program.

Good luck with your book!

Hello, I am a screenwriter, and was wondering if someone could help me with a little bit of technical info.
I assume that fingerprints are taken of police officers, when they join the force. Are those prints put in a general database, or in a separate one?
Also, if a criminal went into the witness protection program, would their prints remain in the national database?
Thank you!
