Kelly, It is 'sticky side powder', not paper. It is a technique in which the SSP substance is mixed with a liquid to process the adhesive (sticky) sides of tape. Standard powdering techniques are not suitable for adhesive surfaces because 'dry' powder (and the brush fibers) would stick to the adhesive surface. Iodine fuming has been used successfully on adhesive sides, but is limited to latents produced by fats. By using a powder suspension solution such as SSP, a latent print, whose residue is held in the adhesive material, can be easily developed. It has been found superior to staining solutions like gentian violet and others. SSP is prepared for each application. There are variations to this 'powder suspension' method, some are 'homemade' recipes using standard fingerprint powder mixed with a detergent-type liquid. Kjell Carlsson of Sweden developed a pre-mixed, ready to use, version that is marketed by Lightning Powder Company under the name "WetWop". This solution has given better results on all types of adhesive tape sticky surfaces than SSP. Ernie | ||
