Short answer to the time lapse between crime scene harvesting and identification in a computer: hours to days at some agencies, but at other agencies it may take weeks/months/years.
Latent print searches can take minutes to days from the time of launch in a computer system, depending on the speed and workload (backlog) of individual systems. Before that can happen, the individual backlog of a police agency may mean that weeks, months or years will pass before the prints are completely evaluated and prepared for searching.

Another factor is that if the suspect who deposited the prints does not have finger/palm prints already on file in the system searched, the eventual identification may not occur for years... until the suspect's prints are searched against latent prints already registered in the system.

It depends on how they are submitted; whether inked cards or livescan are sent. Inked print cards can take weeks, live-scan submissions sent directly can take minutes or hours.

Heard something about police having access from their cars to check prints, is it true or does it take a period of time to get results.
