I am having trouble getting FBI clearance for a consular application because of my "weak finger prints" I am 61 years old and my work has been office related . I haven't workded with chemicals or other components which may have affected my prints. I am about to try a third time at getting prints and I am wondering whether anyone has a suggestion as to how to "strengthen" or improve the images of my prints.

Thanks.

Wildtrout,

Many things can cause friction ridges to be or become less pronounced across the surface of the skin. If your friend is employed in a capacity that requires frequent contact with slightly acidic or basic materials, then the skin on the surface of the ridges may be worn down resulting in non-clear prints. Ridges also flatten out with age, so if your friend is elderly, it may just be a result of the natural aging process. And there are some medical conditions which affect the alignment of the ridges and produce abnormal prints.

Are there medical skin conditions which make fingerprints hard to read on less obvious? I am asking because a friend has been finger printed for a license application and they are having trouble getting good prints with the electronic method and so are holding up her application.
