Do your fingerprints become fainter and worn away as you age? |

one idea for an interesting project would be how fingerprints are unique and persist throughout life until decomposition after death. this makes an interesting topic for people who are not fingerprint experts and don't know a lot about fingerprints already! you will find lots of info on this site and via the internet. hope this helps. |

If you mean, "Do thumbs and large toes both have fingerprint ridges and patterns such as loops, arches and whorls?"... the answer is yes, the both have friction skin, although that does not mean they will have the same general pattern type. If you mean, "Are the individual characteristics the same on a person's thumbs and large toes?"... they are NOT... they are completely different, just as all fingerprints are different from each other (even on adjacent fingers of the same hand). |

All areas of friction skin on the fingers/toes/palms/feet of every person, including identifical twins and including different areas of friction skin on the hands and feet of one person are different. |

I am working on a science fair project and would like to find out if toe prints are unique like fingerprints. |

I recommend you use a copier machine to enlarge or reduce inked handprints you record from the same individuals... so that they are all about the same size. That will eliminate the hint of sex based on size. Your observers will not be able to differentiate sex based on fingerprints/handprints. |

last year i did a science fair project in sixth grade to see if you could tell a person's sex just by looking at pictures of that persons feet. You really couldnt. Now I want to see if you can tell a person's sex and age by looking at footprints vs. fingerprints. What do I look for in the footprint and the fingerprint? I really do not know anything about fingerprints other than what I have just been reading about whorls, loops and arches. Please give me some suggestions on how I can make this into a science fair project, and collect data. I would like to take footprints of the same people whom I took pictures of their feet last year to incorporate last years project with it taking this a little further. |

Brandi and T!8ha, I would recommend that you "search the forum" for the terms "fingerprint formation" and "identical twins fingerprints". There have been many posts on these topics. Also, an internet search of these would turn up additional information. -Kasey |
