Yes, there are other uses. One use other than identification is to provide you with gripping or traction abilities. Holding a smooth glass of ice water (with wet condensation on the outer surfaces) is much more easily accomplished using the friction ridges of your fingers and palms than if you instead were to attempt to hold it with an area of skin without such friction ridges (such as trying to pick it up with just your wrists). The same holds true with your feet... your bare feet have increased traction because of the friction ridges on the soles and toes. Invented uses other than identification include fingerpainting and rubbing the friction ridges of your hands together to help keep your hands warm on a cold day. | ||
