can police get fingerprints from leather? I was assaulted and asked police to obtain the fingerprints from the coat I was wearing but they said it was not scientifically possible... Can you advise please |

I think what you ask is if it's possible for one person's prints to remain on a purse after two others handle it. There are two issues. The answer to one is that later handling might or might not obscure earlier prints, depending on where they lay on the purse and other factors. But the other question is whether it's likely that useful prints can be recovered from the purse at all. Well, that depends on several factors, and there can be no answer but "maybe", but it is perhaps more important to think about what identifiable fingerprints on the purse would mean, which is merely that the person touched the purse. It does not show that THAT person took the money, and it CANNOT prove that no other persons handled the purse and took the money. I believe you would find that the cost of a private lab's attempt to develop prints on the purse would be hard to justify. |

I recently had money stolen out of my purse... can that persons fingerprints be detected after myself and 2 other persons have touched my purse? |
