Here's a quick comparison for you.

Biometric Fingerprint Identification vs. Forensic Friction Ridge Identification

A similarity - both rely on the fundamental uniqueness of the ridges on the fingers.

A difference - Biometrics deals with people who want to be deliberately identified. FRI deals with people who don't want to be identified, and identifies them from their accidentally leaving latent prints everywhere they go.
