Another good history book, although it is out-of-print and you will have to find it in a library, is CENTURY OF THE DETECTIVE by Jurgen Thorwald. The first half of the book is all on fingerprints and it reads like a novel, not like a dry history book.

Try these web sites for a start:

onin.com/fp/fphistory.html
ridgesandfurrows.homestead.com

Use a search engine such as google.com and use key words: fingerprint history

See if your library can get you a copy of:

Fingerprints: The Origins of Crime Detection and the Murder Case That Launched Forensic Science by Colin Beavan

Hope that gets you started. Good Luck!
