My name is Sheila V. I am a Forensic Science student. QUESTION??? How can a fingerprint be lifted from duct tape? I used a wet powder solution, letting it set for 15 seconds. I photographed it, now how can it be lifted. My response to the instructor it could not be lifted. PLEASE RESPOND!!! | ||

Another simple and cost-effective method we use is a can of "Dust-Off" compressed air used to clean dust or dirt particles from camera lenses etc. Just hold the can upside down and spray your exhibit, which will freeze it and allow you to pull apart the tape. | ||

Christine, I agree with Lonnette, however at the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office, we have found that liquid nitrogen is the best freezing method. Generally, the normal freezer does not get cold enough to effectively separate most tapes that are substantially bound. There is a component spray you can buy that reaches temperature around 30 below "0" that works reasonably well also. There are a number of chemicals and steam methods that we have tried, but our experiments have found that freezing does the least destruction to both the organic and inorganic constiuents that "naturally" occur in print residues. | ||
