Google "Henry Classification Formula" and you will arrive at this page (in this Forum). Click on the link near the bottom of that posting to access the FBI publication The Science of Fingerprints. That publication is the best possible reference for the FBI's modified Henry System of classification that is used throughout most of the US (at least used by most agencies still performing fingerprint classification in this modern age of AFIS).

You may also want to consider boning up on how to convert from Henry to NCIC by clicking here.

There's a little Java tool that generates Henry codes from finger patterns. It might be useful to self-test. The URL is as follows: www.sethoscope.net/henryfp/# (also included among the list of projects at www.sethoscope.net/geek/)

(Above URL links activated/edited by the Webservant.)

First, Thank you for your invaluable site.

I have recently been invited to test with the Seattle PD for Fingerprint ID Tech, (Oct 30th, 2008).

I have been out of the work force for over 20 years now yet retain some of my earlier training knowledge of fingerprinting, classification of prints and some of the AFIS system, as it was then of course.
My question is simple, since during the invitation I was asked if I had been trained on the Henry Classification Technique I had to say no but explained my previous experience and the invite still stood, how can I 'bone up' on my knowledge and more specifically the Henry Classification prior to my test date? I have already scoured the internet (and your site) for hours of info and am suprised that I still know so much. Yet I am having difficulty finding the exact topic of my search. Any suggestions?
Respectfully,
lorydory
