From what I have witnessed and experienced while processing scenes, vehicles, and evidence the best method varies depending on the type of powder used. When applying black and dual powder, the twirling method works much better; when lightly brushing streaks are still sometimes created. When using fluorescent powders and magnetic powders, however, the lightly brushing method seems to work better; when twirling there tends to be an overabundance of powder left on the item of evidence. |

I'm curious if anyone has a preference for applying powder to a non-porous surface with a fiber brush by lightly brushing over the area versus twirling the brush over the area. I have seen both techniques used over the years and have heard that by twirling the brush, you are moving with the flow of the ridges and are therefore less likely to damage the print. I'm not sure if this is accurate. I would appreciate anyone's thoughts on this matter. Thank you. |
