After numerous experiments trying to isolate the problem, we ordered new reagents, once they arrived and we did further testing we determined that the problem was the HFE. |

My lab has suddenly started having trouble with DFO!?! We have used the IRCG recipe (stock with DFO, methanol, acetic acid; working with HFE) for years. But suddenly our working solution will not separate out the excess methanol, water, and DFO. However the working solution will separate if it is poured into a tray and a test print is introduced. I've tried pipetting off these spots but they continously appear until the entire tray evaporates, making it nearly impossible to not stain the paper with the oily spots. I also tried introducing a test print into a separatory funnel but it did not cause the sln to separate. We have tried new glassware. We have tried making new stock with different lot # DFO, methanol, and acetic acid. We have also tried working sln with another lot # of HFE. Has anyone ever had this problem? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks! |
