There are two published articles that I know about on this subject:
"Scarred Fingerprint Patterns", Ronald J. Duck, Identification Newsletter, 7:2 (1984) discusses effects of scsrs on pattern appearance
"The Basis for the Uniqueness and Persistence of Scars in the Friction Ridge Skin", Alice V. Maceo, Fingerprint Whorld, 31:121 (2005)
The first one is fairly dated, but Ms. Maceo is currently very active in the field and could provide information.
Internet search of Alice Maceo should provide contact information.

Hi - does anyone know of any published research on scars in relation to alterations to fingerprint patterns. In particular I am interested in whether there is a set procedure for differentiating between permanent and temporary scars?
