I was able to attend a processing class by Brian Dalrymple and it covered the ninhydrin/acetone procedure. I was not hugely impressed with this process, but we also fumed thermic paper with hydrochloric acid. I think that this produced some nice prints. Like iodine fuming though, the prints are not permanent. You should be able to use ninhydrin, DFO, or such after the HCl fuming too. | ||

An alternative to Thermo-nin was listed in the recent IAI journal. It involves saturating or "charging" a silica gel packet with iodine fumes, then placing the paper in a closed container and allowing the iodine to fume the lipid residues on the paper. This does not turn the thermal paper surface black. Prints are photographed. | ||

has anybody got experience with the technique of ninhydrin on thermic paper that afterwards is washed with aceton (removes the black including the writing)? is the method better than the (more expensive)Thermoninhydrin? Greetings from switzerland |
