After you have tried everything else in your post-cyano processing sequence, do not forget that rubbing the surface with a contrasting color fingerprint powder may visualize ridge detail previously missed.
Mike Grimm and Richard Taylor of the Virginia State Crime Lab in Roanoke published the "powder rubbing" technique 20 years ago in Identification News, Vol 34, No. 3. It has worked in many cases as a post-cyano last step that develops ridge detail.
