Darlene, The process I use to clean surfaces of Superglue buildup is the application of "Coca Cola" on the item. It cleans well. However; I do not know if you it on a CD that the media will not be damaged. Its worth a shot and it may not be as damaging than Acetone. This is prob a much cheaper solution as well. |

Acetonitrile is an alternative to acetone that often does not harm as many surfaces as acetone (do a small test area on a non-evidentiary CD first). DMSO has been used by some folks in the past also, but keep it off your skin (it is permeates skin quickly). Some folks have used moist air (a cup of water on a coffee cup warmer in a small chamber) and time (hours/overnight) to loosen CA deposits. Soap and warm water with gentle rubbing has also been successfully used. |

Lightning Powder has developed a CA residue remover that works very well on glass and plastic surfaces. I have forwarded your concerns regarding CD surfaces to our technical researcher and suggested we research that aspect in regards to this new product. |

Kasey, We tried acetone on some test CDs and it completely destroys the media. We need a method of removal that will allow the CD to be read. (The CD became unreadable subsequent to the superglue fuming and we would like to restore its readability) |

Darlene, Acetone is the solvent of choice for removing residue. I believe many fingernail polish removers utilize acetone as a solvent, but check the bottle first. It wouldn't hurt to try NP Remover anyway, but I would suggest using a cotton ball. And try an old CD first to make sure it doesn't have an adverse effect on the surface of the CD. Good luck! -Kasey |

How would one remove fingerprints developed by superglue fuming from a compact disc without damaging the disc? |
