When a latent print examiner testifies in court, what does the typical testimony consist of? Do they start off with a detailed description of the science of print identifications? If so, what does this typically include? Also, do they usually include the number of matching points (ridge characteristics) that they found, and is this described to the jury before hand? I am just curious how the court procedure evolves when the prosecution presents an expert to testify on his/her analysis of the latent prints found at the crime scene in relation to those of the defendant? Any advice or transcripts from testimonies of such cases would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
