Hello, I am interested in becoming an LPE. I currently hold my bach and Masters in Criminal Justice and am having a hard time finding CEU/NCE or even just a training course for this field, google searches are turning up nothing and the NIJ provides training for new LPE's with 6months or less in the field. I however, cannot get into the field because I do not have this training . I live in Fort Lauderdale, FL I would appreciate any assistence. Please email me Amanda1982@gmail.com |

Trina, There are a few different agencies that employ LPE's in the Seattle area; Washington State Patrol, Tacoma, Pierce Co, Seattle, King Co, Bellevue, and Snohomish Co. For SPD and KCSO, you'll be looking at working as an ID Tech prior to applying as an LPE. I don't know about the other agencies. Requirements vary as to experience and education. Some agencies require a 4-yr degree (I think SPD has this requirement) while others don't, but have a requirement for experience as either an LPE or doing 10-Print comparisons. My best advice would be for you to contact each of these agencies to find out their requirements for application as an LPE and then look into those steps. It's unlikely in this area that you'll step right into training as an LPE from community college. As time goes on, more and more agencies are requiring a 4-yr degree (often with a science a major) for applications for both experience and non-experienced candidates. |

You can find the International Association for Identification's certification requirements here: www.theiai.org Essentially, you'll have to become trained as a Latent Print Examiner prior to becoming certified. |

Hi, my name is Andrea Hinkle and I am interested in a career as a latent print examiner. I graduated in May with a bachelors degree in criminal justice and have also worked as an intern with the Geauga County Sheriffs Office in Ohio. It is to my understanding that one must work as a trainee in order to have a career in this field. I am very interested and eager to learn. Please contact me at Hnklandrea@aol.com to discuss further interest. |
