I am looking to find an area where a full on AFIS could be used for training purposes. The AFIS holds 50,000 records and supports livescan as well as all the regular AFIS features. It can be loaded to a PC or Laptop or be used off a USB stick. I am reaching out here in hopes of finding people in need of such software. This software was designed by policemen for policemen.
regards,

I have a couple of online fingerprint comparison programs that go through basic comparison and latent print comparisons. I am wondering if these programs can be certified as preparatory by any of the fingerprint bodies. Does anyone know where I could start looking into this?
regards,

I have an Associate's Degree in Veterinary Technology and I'm graduating in 2010 with an Associate's Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology. I'm interested in fingerprint technology and found a classification certificate course online through the Academy of Investigational Services & Training. Is this an accepted by law enforcement. Please let me know and if you could tell me if my Medical Laboratory Degree could possibly get me a job in a crime lab. Thanks

The gold standard for fingerprint expert "Certification" is the IAI's Certified Latent Print Examiner program. It is NOT something you can obtain by taking a correspondence course (online or through the mail).

An online fingerprint classification course may help indicate to prospective employers that you are motivated, but most Fingerprint Unit supervisors would not consider such a "certificate" as qualifying you for employment in fingerprint work.

Your local law enforcement agency or state/provincial crime lab is the place to start.

Go in person to speak with a fingerprint expert and ask about recommendations for local requirements. Some agencies prefer to hire from within or train their own experts, others will not hold non-law enforcement agency training against you ... figuring they can break any bad habits you picked-up from university teachers (most of whom lack the years/decades of employment experience typical of instructors in a police ID/forensic unit or crime laboratory).

If you have already done some research into fingerprint expert training, then you know that no university course or two-week/three-week school is going to equip you with the necessary expertise to be a fully-qualified (trained to competency) Latent Print Examiner. The empirical knowledge required is achieved by performing hundreds of thousands of supervised examinations (analysis/comparison/evaluation and independent re-examination/verification) taking years of eight-hour, full-time workdays to complete. Getting the required bachelors degree and minimum science courses most agencies seek today is a good starting point, but research the specific requirements of your target agency now.

Please be sure to visit the IAI's online training and education opportunities listed at the following URL:
www.theiai.org
Latent Print Certification is something to consider attaining typically at about the two or three-year point in your latent print work career... not something you attain before your first employment as a Latent Print Examiner.

I am a recent college graduate with a Bachelor's degree in Criminology. I am very interested in becoming a Fingerprint Examiner/Expert. Every job seems to require extensive experience or a fingerprint course. I found a fingerprint classification certificate course that is offered online through the Academy of Investigational Services & Training. Will this site, course, and its certification be accepted by law enforcement agencies in the US? Either way would someone please direct me on how and where to get started?

Thank you very much for your time.
