Friction ridges are present on skin surfaces where creating friction is most beneficial. Try to pickup a wet/slippery drinking glass with the smooth skin on the inside of your arm (elbow area) and you may drop it more easily than if you used the friction ridges on your fingers and palms. Without friction ridges present on your foot soles and toes, you would be more likely to fall when walking on a smooth, wet surface.
