they are both types of fingerpint patterns. in a loop pattern some of the ridges form a backward tutrn, without a twist. the ridges about the centre (the core) appear to form a hairpin that may or may not enclose other ridges, or have ridges attached to it. loops also have one delta (area where ridges branch 3 ways). a whorl has 2 deltas and a recurve of 360 degrees. this 360 degrees can be made up of 1x360 or 2x180 degree circuits.
