Another good history book, although it is out-of-print and you will have to find it in a library, is CENTURY OF THE DETECTIVE by Jurgen Thorwald. The first half of the book is all on fingerprints and it reads like a novel, not like a dry history book.

we have a paper due in chemistry and the subject of it is how some scientific discovery was discovered. i chose for my topic forensics: DNA which includes anything and i'm now looking into the discovery of the finger-print analysis. if anyone could possibly direct me to some useful info on the subject within two weeks of this please help me!!!!
