Most latent print examiners are trained by the agency they go to work for. For example, I was hired in 1997 by the Mississippi Crime Laboratory, who put on a 2 year intensive training program for all 6 employees hired. We had no formal training in latent print examination prior to this time. There are a few universities out there who have courses in fingerprinting, but if you are not at one of those schools, the most you can do is lay the groundwork for a career in latent prints. This can be done by taking courses which would apply to duties as a latent print examiner, such as chemistry, biology, genetics, courtroom procedure, criminology, forensics, etc... You could also intern at a near-by crime laboratory or department with a latent print section. The International Association for Identification is also very helpful and encourages college students in their pursuit of forensic careers. More can be learned about this organization at www.theiai.org
I wish you well, and hope to see you active in the latent print community in a few years!

I was just wondering if there was a specific school or program that I could go to in order to learn the science of fingerprint analysis. I am currently a criminal justice major and I do not think that my university offers courses in fingerprinting. Please help if you know! Thanks!
