Jan. 23, 2006 AUSTIN – Gov. Rick Perry today announced the appointment of three individuals to the Texas Forensic Science Commission for terms to expire Sept. 1, 2007. The commission oversees professional conduct in forensic laboratories and facilities in Texas. Debbie Lynn Benningfield of Hockley currently serves as a deputy administrator in the Houston Police Department latent lab section. Benningfield has been an instructor in the science of fingerprints for the Houston Police Department, the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, the Texas Department of Public Safety and the International Association for Identification (IAI), which is the oldest and largest forensic organization in the world. She is an appointed member of the Scientific Working Group for Friction Ridge Analysis Study and Technology, a panel of forensics experts sponsored by the U.S. Department of Justice. Benningfield also serves as the chairperson of the training and education committee of the Texas Division of the IAI. She currently serves on the IAI Latent Print Certification Board and was instrumental in the development of the IAI Tenprint Certification Program. In 2004, she received the prestigious Texas Department of Public Safety Director’s Award. Benningfield attended the American Institute of Applied Science. Benningfield will serve as presiding officer of the commission for a term at the pleasure of the governor. |
