Latent prints submitted by a state are not searched by other AFIS systems like a global search on a network.

Prints once run through local databases can be forwarded to IAFIS where they are searched. Once the submitting agency clears the case, they should update the request to delete the inquiry.

Often this does not happen and only adds to system delays in checking active searches. You can search the postings for further information on this subject.

I am a little confused concerning AFIS searches and am seeking some guidance. If my state (MA) has an AFIS that is connected to IAFIS, are latent searches conducted through this AFIS as well as IAFIS, automatically searched through all other AFIS systems in the nation with connectivety to IAFIS? Also, do unknown latents that are submitted to my state's AFIS and then on to IAFIS continue to reside in IAFIS for searches against ten-print cards as they are added to IAFIS? Thanks in advance.
