There is actually a good case where a recently deceased (homicide)female was fumed with a wand and they were able to recover latents that led to the suspect. The material for examination generally has to be fine cotton (or similar) as found in a dress shirt, or a cotton bed sheet. The larger weaves of materials used in jackets, pants and sweatshirts are not usually conducive to effective examination. The Vacuum Metal Deposition process was effective with the fine weave cotton type materials back in the 1970's. I have not had the opportunity to deal with the processing of clothing since. Yes, you can get prints from skin, but again there are many factors affecting the success rate, especially if the person is still alive and exuding perspiration and oils etc., through the skin area you are going to examine.
