Commonly used standards for automated fingerprint identification systems include the following:
FBI's Electronic Fingerprint Transmission Specification Standard

ANSI/NIST ITL 2000

Interpol Implementation of ANSI/NIST ITL 2000
Standards for fingerprint card format, the position of finger blocks, the sequence of the fingers in the blocks (thumbs first, etc.), vary country by country.

One place to read general guidelines related to latent print examination (including recommended information to be marked on latent print lifts, etc.) is SWGFAST.
