I remember reading that Male ridges are generally, as a whole, thicker at something like .053mm, while most Female fingerprint ridges are generally .047mm in thickness. This is from memory and the stated information may be wrong.

This was a Biology textbook reference that I read some years ago. It stated that these were averages, and personal observation is that some Male prints may 'look' like Female prints on some Males. Generally, thumbprints seem to follow this 'rule' more than other fingerprints in ridge thickness 'norms' from the prints I have seen.

any algorithm is there for calculating a thinned ridges in the fingerprint image

how to convert the ridges in the fingerprint, thinner from the input image.

Are the ridge counts similar for males and females ? If not, why ?
