I have prepared a page with various Salary Relative to Cost of Living Calculators.

Here are a few examples comparing cost of living for salaries in various locations using the simplest (Monster.com) calculator:
City & Recent Salary Offered on this SiteWhat That Salary is Equal to in Hillsborough County, FL (Tampa, FL)What that Salary is Equal to in Johnson County, KS
(Near Overland Park, KS)
What that Salary is Equal to in Phoenix, AZWhat that Salary is Equal to in Fairfax, VA (near Manassas)
Fairfax, VA @ $63,275
(near Manassas, VA)
= $37,589 =$46,360 = $43,854
Hillsborough County, FL (Tampa, FL) @ $66,019 =$81,423= $77,022 = $111,132
Johnson County, KS @ $74,443= $60,359= $70,419= $101,605
Phoenix, AZ at $71,406= $61,205= $75,486=$103,029
A higher salary may equal less income if the location has a high cost of living (with housing prices three or four times higher than elsewhere).

Use multiple resources to research cost of living comparisons. Also, it is a good idea to ask to talk with an employee who is making exactly what you are being offered (or nearly the same amount)... so that you can do a reality check insofar as what portion of your salary will be consumed with taxes, insurance costs, and other deductions (keeping in mind that you will have some slight variances for your situation).
