The powder used to look for fingerprints can easily be washed from the outside of a car but it's not so easy to clean up the inside of a car. Many courts won't recognize evidence from the outside of the car because it doesn't show the suspect was in the car.
Although many victims want their items processed for fingerprint evidence, they are disappointed when they realize that this processing did more damage than the break-in and many times no evidence is found.
